Drinking A Can Of Wine

It is another cold night with breeze blowing through my study room (aka 'office') window. The cool breeze caused me to shiver but I like cold weather. Cold weather always remind me of my overseas vacation. For some reasons, every time when I go on overseas vacation, the temperature is always cool or cold so now I always associate cold weather to vacation.

It's been a while since I last drank but I'm drinking again tonight. I need the alcohol to numb my brain. I need to forget. I need my mind to drift to a quiet place tonight. I'm overwhelmed with bad news and overloaded with work. Next year doesn't look good. I hope I'm prepared to withstand the impact the financial tsunami has brought. It looks bleak. Till date, I've only received 5 payments totaling $7840. That is hardly enough to pay for our monthly operating costs.

Tonight, I'm drinking a can of cabernet shiraz merlot. You read that right. I am drinking from a can. Not a bottle, not a glass but really a can. Really, I'm not drunk yet. Even though my brain seems to be drifting and oscillating from consciouness to the state of being comatose, I assure you, I'm conscious and I'm still blogging this entry, aren't I?

Tired of drinking coffee with a dash of vodka, I was looking for something new. I can only drink alone as my wife doesn't drink so a bottle of wine is really too much for me to finish. I've not been able to find canned beer that I like. Once, I tried bottled Hoegarden after reading so much about it from DK's blog. Didn't really like it. * pui *

Fortunately, one day when I visited NTUC Fairprice supermarket, I found wine in a can. Like I said, it is wine in a can. I can skip the hassle of opening a bottle of wine and the need of trying to finish a bottle of wine within 3 days on my own. The wine in a can is only 250 ml. Just right for me. If not enough, I can always open a second can. I'm not really a wine connoisseur so I usually just drink merlot because of its sweetness. Easier on my palette.

Funny thing is, I don't get drunk easily nowadays. It wasn't like this many years ago. There was once (15 years ago) when I went drinking with a friend who had relationship problem, I was the first one to get knocked out ... after half a mug of beer! I can still remember the incident because my friends would always remind me of it! When I get drunk, I fall asleep. At that time, I barely remember that my friends were laughing at me, saying that I was drunk and commenting that I can't hold my liquor.

I would wake up and reply to them, "Who say I can't drink? Who say I'm drunk?"

Afterwhich, I would plonk back down on the table and continue my slumber. If they mentioned that I'm drunk again, I would wake up again and repeat what I said earlier. Obviously my friends had a lot of fun setting the trigger to wake me up and seeing me falling asleep again.

During my wedding, the legend of me not being able to hold my liquor preceeds me so my colleagues were going easy on me. They had only asked me to finish drinking a mug of beer through 2 straws (don't ask me why). When I managed to finish the mug of beer in one gulp, they were all surprised. I can remember them mouthing, "Wah, kena conned! Who say he cannot drink? Tio pian!"

Seriously, I was surprised too on my wedding night. For some reason, since then, I'm able to hold my liquor.


Yes, Optimus Prime is drinking tonight but he can't get drunk.

I wish I can get drunk easily again. Let me go and open the second can of wine.
